I watched Jerry & Marge Go Large last year. Bhai, what a feel-good film with actual true story! Bryan Cranston and Annette Bening play this retired couple who discover big mathematical loophole in lottery system and use it to help their small town in Michigan.
Jerry (Cranston) is mathematics genius type who figures out how to get guaranteed wins in WinFall lottery. Instead of keeping all money for themselves, they start investment group with town people so everyone benefits. Their chemistry is superb – he is the excited numbers guy while she brings practical wisdom.
The way they revive dying small town is heartwarming – fixing old shops, bringing community together again. All those scenes in small cafes and sunny streets make you feel nostalgic for simple town life.
Not everything works perfectly though. There’s some Harvard students who also find same loophole and become villains, but their part feels half-cooked and unnecessary.
Film moves at nice speed and keeps you smiling throughout. It’s not groundbreaking cinema but perfect for family movie night when you want something uplifting without violence or tension.
If you like stories about ordinary people doing extraordinary things, definitely give this one a try!
