The Karate Kid Story & Plot

When Daniel and his mother packed up and moved from New Jersey to sunny California, they were hoping for a fresh start. His mom had landed a dream job, but Daniel soon realized that his Jersey swagger and dark Italian looks didn’t quite mesh with the laid-back, blond surfer crowd at his new school. Before long, Daniel found himself in a bit of a pickle with some local toughs who were all part of the same karate dojo. After talking his way out of a few scrapes, he finally got cornered by the gang and was taking a real beating. Just as he was about to pass out, the elderly gardener Miyagi swooped in like a desi superhero and took out half a dozen teenagers single-handedly! As it turns out, the boys’ violent behavior was all thanks to their unhinged karate sensei. Miyagi, feeling sorry for the kid, promised to teach Daniel the art of karate himself. He even set up a match at the all-valley tournament a few months down the line. But when training began, Daniel was left scratching his head.
